The Nuno de Santa Maria School Group intends to be an organic unit of reference, at local and national level, innovative in its pedagogical proposals and practices, as well as in the training of critical, conscientious and enterprising citizens, committing to provide its students an education that allows them to position themselves in the world and prepare for its diversity, complexity and unpredictability, providing them with indispensable information, knowledge, adaptability and resilience in order to have a happy existence.

It is located in Tomar, about 120 km from Lisbon.

It has around 2200 students aged 3 to 18 years from kindergarten to secondary school. The school's students are distributed across 15 schools. 23% of them have economic problems, 7% are students with special educational needs and 19 students are autistic. There are about 220 teachers and 80 educational assistants. We also have 2 psychologists, speech therapist and hippotherapy.

The Group has two structured teaching units for the education of students with autism spectrum disorder (UEEEPEA) that provide a specialized educational response and that concentrate groups of students from any level of education, who express this problem, from across the county . These units are headquartered one at Escola EB 2,3 D. Nuno Álvares Pereira and the other at JI and EB 1 Raul Lopes. These units promote the participation of students with autism spectrum disorder in curricular and curriculum enrichment activities with peers in the class to which they belong, intervening at the School's articulation level with the community and with parents and, eventually, organizing their transition process to after-school life.

The Group also functions as a "reference group" for the placement of teachers in the context of early intervention for children in the municipalities of Tomar and Ferreira do Zêzere, ensuring articulation with the health and social security services and strengthening the technical team that provides services within the scope of early childhood intervention called the Early Intervention Team of Tomar and Ferreira do Zêzere.

In addition to the normal study procedures courses, there are two professional courses, one in Multimedia and the other in Tourism.

In order to develop in young people certain broader skills, schools with 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary education offer several clubs and projects, in which all students can participate, aiming at their cultural, scientific, social and physical enrichment.

There is a Teacher Training Center in the space, which organizes training in the municipalities of Tomar, Ourém and Ferreira do Zêzere.
